Ring Out Danger

(Please note: this site is under construction. Check back later for more information!)

Our hearts are breaking with the almost daily news of another mass shooting, and of other forms of gun violence plaguing the United States. As people of faith, we revere life as the greatest gift, and view the taking of life as wrong. To signal our mourning and to protest the ongoing lack of meaningful action to rein in the epidemic of gun violence, faith communities across the country are joining in a campaign to publicly mark this mourning and protest through tolling of church bells, blowing of shofars and conches, and any other sounds sacred to any community of faith. We have chosen 9:35 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. local time on the first Friday of each month as a time when we will Ring Out Danger, and we invite all communities of faith who oppose gun violence to join in, until there is a wave of sacred sound across the nation.

As we engage in this symbolic action, we can each choose as a community what else we might do. We can point people towards groups that are effectively engaging in day-to-day work. We can open our sanctuaries and places of worship to mourners. We can speak out form our pulpits, write letters to the editor, place signs in front of our churches, synagogues, temples, and shrines. We can’t all do everything, but we can each do something. Please join us in our campaign to end the epidemic of gun violence.
